Round Rock details, verified against Round Rock Municipal Court

  • Round Rock tickets go to the Round Rock Municipal Court (roundrocktexas.gov/municipal-court), and online payments run through Municipal Online Services.
  • I-35 through Round Rock is one of the busiest enforcement corridors in Texas, so a large share of citations come from DPS troopers and Williamson County deputies - those cases go to a Justice of the Peace court and are not payable through the city portal.
  • Paying online is a plea. Guilty or no contest, no jury trial, and a conviction reported to DPS. If your goal is a dismissal, the answer is a driving safety course or a deferred disposition, requested before you pay.
  • Driving safety course: by your answer date, court costs plus the $10 state fee, an approved provider from the TDLR list, certificate filed before the deadline. Usually once every 12 months; not with a commercial licence.
  • Deferred disposition: plea, special expense fee, clean period and dismissal - the usual Round Rock alternative when a course is unavailable or already used.
  • Proof-of-correction violations (registration, licence, insurance, equipment) are dismissed on proof, not on payment - paying the full amount online turns them into convictions.
  • Unresolved cases bring a warrant and a failure-to-appear fee, and Texas blocks licence and registration transactions; check the state's FTA lookup if you are not sure a case was closed.
  • The court's page carries the current fine schedule and the local requirements for a course or deferral, and the citation's answer date is the deadline that matters.

2How much will it cost?

Fines vary by violation and county. Confirm the amount with the municipal court named on your citation.

Don’t just look at the fine. For a moving violation, the real cost is the fine plus the insurance increase, which can last up to three years. Texas does not use a points system, but a conviction can still raise your insurance rate.

3Should I fight it, or just pay?

4Can traffic school save my record?

In Texas you can often take a driving safety course to get an eligible ticket dismissed - usually once every 12 months. You must request it by your answer date and pay the court costs plus the state fee.

5Do I need a lawyer?

For a simple moving violation a lawyer typically costs $150-$400 typical for a simple moving violation. It’s usually worth it when the insurance increase, or your job (CDL, company car), outweighs that fee.

6Do I have to show up in court?

It depends on the ticket. Many moving violations can be handled online or by mail; others require a court date. Check the court named on your ticket before the deadline — missing a deadline can add penalties or suspend your license.
